Intervista del mercoledì- Wednesday interview, Fratuklab

This week interview with Fratuklab and her funny characters!
From Piedmont, Italy.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

My name is Francesca, i' m a computer graphic artist and i like to create characters and funny things.
I started modeling small animals when i was very young using wax that came from Galbanino cheese (a kind of cheese which is covered with a wax protection).
I used to color them with watercolor crayons.
Then i discovered the salt-dough, the traditional clay, and finally the polymer clay which i consider to be the best innovation of the century.
All my creations start from an idea then becomes a character with a story related to it.
My shop is a little corner where I can combine two things that are part of me, passion for creativity and irony.

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

Surfing the internet I came across this wonderful site and fell in love with it, it's full of ideas, art, color, originality and culture. And also a great place for inspiration. I knew i wanted to become a part of it!

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

Polymer clay is my favorite material, its easy to work on it, just like wax and it does not require a professional oven for baking ...

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

I start by doing little sketches on a sketchbook then move to the modeling process, then primer, acrylics and gloss for the finishing touch. I then choose my favorite characters, i create a rubber mold of them in order to reproduce multiple resin clones.

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

Absolutely! Because handmade is full of love and passion. Expression of personality, it holds the soul of the crafter. Lastly, things that come with little imperfections are beautiful and unique!

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Well, its hard to tell these days of global recession, my head is full of promising ideas and projects, but I just hope i can go on doing things that make me feel good...
