Uno dei motivi che mi hanno spinto a laurearmi alla facoltà di Scienze della Moda e del Costume è stata la curiosità di scoprire i costumi dei popoli. Antichi o moderni che siano i costumi popolari sanno stupirmi per la loro straordinaria bellezza, per  la perizia delle lavorazioni, per il significato delle decorazioni...

Oggi desidero condividere con voi questa mia passione mostrandovi alcune immagini del libro "Storia Universale del Costume" di P.R.Anawalf edito in Italia dalla Mondadori. Si tratta di un librone di più di 600 pagine e pesa più di 3 kili!!! Un vero mattone, ma davvero utile per chi lavora nel campo della moda e per gli appassionati.

Dalle Americhe alla Cina, dall'antica Roma alle Indie, dall'Oceania all'Europa, con questo libro ho fatto un viaggio attraverso tutti i continenti!

One of the reasons why I majored in Fashion and Costume university course is curiosity to discover popular costumes. Ancient or modern the popular costumes always amaze me for their extraordinary beauty, expertise of working and the meaning of decorations...

Today I want to share with you this passion showing some pictures from the book "Universal History of Costume" by P.R.Anawalf. It is a so big book with more than 600 pages and it weighs about 3 kg (6.61 lbs)!!! It is weighty, but it is very usefull  for those working in the field of fashion and for popular costume fans!

From the Americas to China, from ancient Rome to India, from Oceania to Europe, with this book I traveled across all continents!

  

Sfogliandolo ci si rende conto di quanto sia profondo e indissolubile  il legame tra l'uomo e l'artigianalità. Quando non esistevano le macchine e i prodotti sintetici,  quando l'usa e getta non era lontanamente concepito, l'uomo (anzi, soprattutto la donna) ha saputo realizzare abiti e accessori superbi per la loro bellezza e perfezione. 

Tutto ciò che veniva indossato era fatto con mani umane, pazienza e sapienza. Anche la più semplice tunica era tessuta a mano, anche se con l'aiuto di strumenti.

Oggi sta sempre più riscoprendo il piacere di "fare", di costruire con le proprie mani. Forse a dispetto di un'industrializzazione che da tanti anni impera e che oramai ci sta stancando. Ma non desidero annoiarvi oltre e vi mostro qualcuno degli abiti che più mi piacciono, con una breve descrizione, nella speranza che vi possano in qualche modo ispirare!

Browsing this book you can to understand how deep and indissoluble is the bond between humans and craftmanship. When machines and synthetic products didn't exist, when throwaway had not been invented, men (but particurarly women) made magnificent -for beauty and perfection- clothes and accessories.

Everything worn was made by hands, with patience and knowledge. Also the most simply tunic was hand-woven, with the help of tools.

Today more and more people is discovering the pleasure of "to do" with their own hands. Maybe to go againts industrialization that rule for many years and now there has tired.

But now I don't want to bore you and I show some clothes I like from my book, with a brief desciption, I hope they can inspire you!

Dettaglio dell'immagine sopra. I drago era il simbolo dell'imperatore e ed era rappresentato sulle vesti in modo diverso a seconda del rango di appartenenza. Soltanto la famiglia imperiale e nobili potevano indossarli.

Mocassini sioux, ricamati con perline, 1890 circa. Gli indiani d'America furono i primi a usare suole diverse per il piede destro e sinistro, mentre gli europei usavano un'unica sagoma per entrambi i piedi.
