This week interview with Roberta Nordio and her shop Amabito,

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

My name is Roberta and I am twentyseven years old. I studied engineering and then the work I had to start is vanished and so I stay at home with my husband and my beautiful son. In this period at home I could know the blog world and I start to share the passion that I cultivate seen I was young: to realize handmade jewels. Very little time after I attended a course at Murano to learn how to make glass beads with lampwork technique, and then blow beads; in the same time I sperimented with metal wire and aluminium sheet. In fact in my etsy shop  you can find earrings, bracelets, necklace that I realize starting with the creation of the glass beads necessary to do the project that I have in my mind and continuing with the metal parts. The etsy shop is a collection of this passion for the search of beauty, without forget that I am an engineer so when I have to realize an idea  the start is always the solution of a problem that I wish to solve in the most beautiful way.

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

I choose Etsy for many reasons. One of it is that Etsy is a very international platform, but another very important component for the choise is certainly the personal challenge: can my creation be appreciate and maybe be competitive on a platform so big and important?

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

This is a question very difficult because I use the techniques that I know and I try to learn new of them related to the idea on my mind I have to realize. I love to work with glass: both with the lampwork beads, technique that allow you to realize very beautiful, colorful and with particular pattern beads, and with blow beads, more difficult to realize but bright, light and that you can fill with other materials. But I can not see at me like a bead maker, but like a jewelry artisan so I become keen on the work of metal wire, in particular inox steel, and aluminium sheet that allow you to realize solid element very useful to realize interesting pieces.

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

On the stages of processing I have to lean to be more systematic, especially don’t starting a lot of contemporary projects.

The process start generally with an idea that I draw approximately on my block notes. Then I take a bit of time to verify the presence of realizable problems and how can I solve them. Subsequently I start always realizing the glass beads, if necessary, and then I sit on my working table to realize the pieces of aluminium or wire necessary to complete the work. Generally at this point appear some problems that I had not thought. Sometimes the solution of these unexpected problems bring the creation faraway from the original draw.

If I have the possibility sometimes I go straigth from the idea to the realization getting often very interesting results.

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

The value of the handmade is the person behind the work and his passion for the realization. Often the quality of the object that you can buy is fantastic and you have the consciuosness of having in your hand a very unique piece, sometimes create only for you.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

This is another very difficult question for me, I don’t love to do long term projects because I wish to follow what happen in the reality. Actually , 5 years from now, I see me with a wonderful artisan business that realize jewels and, why not, object completely handmade. Also for this I see my Etsy shop to testify to: Am I a good artisan? Do my creation like to people? So why not invest my time on my passion?

Raccontaci qualcosa di te e del tuo negozio.

Mi chiamo Roberta e ho ventisette anni. Ho studiato ingegneria e poi il lavoro che dovevo iniziare è sfumato e così sono rimasta a casa con mio marito e il mio bellissimo bambino. Questo periodo a casa mi ha permesso di conoscere il mondo dei blog attraverso cui ho iniziato a condividere la mia passione che coltivo da quando sono piccola: realizzare gioielli fatti a mano. Pochissimo dopo ho frequentato un corso a Murano per imparare a fare le perle in vetro con tecnica lampwork, e poi perle soffiate e nel contempo sperimentavo con filo metallico e lamina di alluminio. Nel mio negozio etsy infatti potete trovare orecchini, bracciali, collane che realizzo a partire dalla creazione delle perle in vetro necessarie per il progetto che ho in mente e proseguendo con le parti metalliche. Il negozio etsy è proprio una raccolta di questa passione per la ricerca del bello, senza dimenticare che sono pur sempre un ingegnere per cui quando ho un’idea da realizzare la partenza è sempre la soluzione di un problema che, però, desidero risolvere nel modo più bello possibile.

Perché hai scelto Etsy per vendere i tuoi gioielli?

Ho scelto etsy per vari motivi tra cui il fatto che è una piattaforma decisamente internazionale, ma un'altra componente importante per la scelta è certamente anche la sfida personale: possono le mie creazioni essere apprezzate e magari anche competitive su una piattaforma così grande e importante?

Quali sono i tuoi materiali e tecniche preferiti? Perché?

Questa è una domanda decisamente difficile perché io utilizzo le tecniche che conosco e cerco di impararne di nuove in funzione dell’idea da realizzare che ho in mente. Amo il lavoro con il vetro: sia le perle lampwork o al lume, tecnica che permette di realizzare delle perle molto belle, colorate e con fantasie particolari, che le perle in vetro soffiato, più difficili da realizzare ma luminose, leggere e riempibili con altri materiali! Però non mi vedo come una bead maker, ma come una artigiana del gioiello per cui mi sono appassionata anche alla lavorazione del filo metallico, in particolare acciaio inossidabile, e della lamina di alluminio che permette di realizzare elementi solidi utilissimi per realizzare pezzi interessanti.

Raccontaci berevemente gli stadi di lavorazione dei tuoi gioielli.

Rispetto i passaggi di realizzazione devo ancora imparare ad essere metodica, soprattutto per non iniziare molti progetti contemporaneamente.

Il processo parte generalmente con un’idea che disegno approssivamente nel mio blocco degli appunti. Poi mi do un po’ di tempo per verificare se possono comparire problemi realizzativi e come è possibile risolverli. Successivamente inizio sempre realizzando le perle in vetro, se necessarie, e infine mi siedo al tavolo da lavoro per creare i pezzi in lamina o filo necessari per completare il lavoro. In genere a questo punto compaiono problemi realizzativi che non avevo messo in conto, a volte la soluzione di questi imprevisti porta la creazione ad essere ben lontana dalla bozza iniziale.

Se ne ho la possibilità a volte passo direttamente dall’idea alla realizzazione ottenendo spesso risultati molto interessanti.

Pensi che le persone dovrebbero acquistare hand-made? Perché?

Il valore del fatto è mano è la persona che sta dietro al lavoro e la sua passione per ciò che realizza. Spesso la qualità del pezzo che si acquista è fantastica e si ha la consapevolezza di avere tra le mani un pezzo veramente unico, a volte creato appositamente per te.

Dove ti vedi da qui a 5 anni?

Questa è un’altra domanda particolarmente difficile per me perché non amo fare progetti a lunghissimo termine perché desidero seguire ciò che capita nella realtà. Vedendo ciò che c’è adesso nella mia vita tra cinque anni mi vedo con una fantastica azienda di artigianato che realizza gioielli e ,perché no, oggetti intermente fatti a mano. Anche per questo vedo il mio negozio come un banco di prova: sono brava? Le mie cose piacciono? E allora perché non investire il mio tempo nella mia passione?
