Intervista del mercoledì-Wednesday interview- Jeanette Bowen

This week interview with Jeanette Bowen, great painter  from Atalanta, United States.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

My real name is Jeannette, but I go by Jae to all of my friends, which is where the name Art by Jae originated from!  I have loved art all my life and new from an early age that art was going to play a huge part in my life.  I majored in illustration in college and went on to become a certified art teacher.  My Etsy shop features my original paintings and giclee prints of my paintings.  I am inspired by color, so you will find colorful and realistic artwork in my etsy shop.  It is so much fun to have a shop to feature my paintings!

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

Etsy hosts such a great community of creative individuals that continue to inspire me.  I have browsed through Etsy's art section and seen such talented artists making a living off of selling their artwork online.  I think many people are beginning to shop for art online rather than visit local galleries, so Etsy seemed like the perfect place for me to share my paintings.

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

I love working in both acrylic and oil paint on canvas.  I like to stay busy, so most of my paintings are in acrylic because it is much faster to finish.  I love to paint things that are lively and colorful, so many of my paintings are of flowers, landscapes, and vegetables/fruit.

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

My paintings always start with a drop of inspiration that spreads like crazy!  Most of the time, I don't sketch anything on my canvas but just start right in with my paint.  I will block out areas in color to get a sense of color relationships and composition, then I will go in and start to add my details.  My paintings typically take several days to finish because I like to work in layers, so I will often work on more than one painting at a time.  When a painting is finished, I paint the edges so they are all ready to hang and spray them with a glossy varnish for a beautiful finish.

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

I think people should by handmade because there is something special and unique about every handmade item.  Sometime spent time and put love into each handmade product.  Handmade items are usually much higher quality as well!

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I hope that 5 years from now, I will still be doing what I love: painting.  It would be amazing to have my paintings in homes, offices, or restaurants all over the world.

Poi vado avanti a dipingere i dettagli.
