Intervista del Mercoledì-Wednesday Interview, Hashleigh Hodges

Today interview with Hashleigh Hodges and her photograph shop ANomadInParis,
From California, United States

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

My name is Ashleigh Hodges.  I have been married to my best friend, Kevin, for 21 years and we have 3 beautiful children.   I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life.  Art has always been a part of my life ---- I have a mother who had a business as a potter.   I used to love watching her make elaborate pots on the wheel in her studio.  It was like magic!  My dad's "art" is working with the roses  in their large garden.  And, my uncle is also an accomplished painter and retired art professor.

So, art has always been an integral part of my upbringing.  It's something that I appreciate my parents for.  I am a more rounded/cultured person for the time we spent visiting museums, having access to various forms of art supplies, and being encouraged to express myself in an artistic manner.

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

I chose Etsy because I think it's a great platform for a busy mom like myself.  But, most of all, I am encouraged when I see all of the other great artists with their Etsy stores ----- there are some amazing artists!!!!  I'm also able to collaborate a bit with my daughter, Moriah, at my etsy store.  She loves photography as well and is currently studying Art History in college.

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

I love my cameras.....  I have a Nikon D40 that I use for digital and a Canon that I like to use for 35mm shots.   I wish I could say I have a favorite technique but, I really don't.  I just have a passion for travel (whether here in California or further International destinations).  I really enjoy taking small moments from my travels and expressing / sharing them in a photo.  Whether it's the drama of color that really spoke to me or the way a person may have looked while in a marketplace.  I like sharing a story.

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

I am usually really excited when I return from a day of shooting photos --- so, I download them immediately to my computer and catalog them.

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

I definitely think people should buy handmade!  I know when I am buying something handmade that I am buying a piece of that artist.  So much love and workmanship goes into that piece.   For me, when I send one of my photos off, it's a representation of me and I want it to be of superior quality.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

My 19 year old daughter just told me I'll probably have more gray hairs then! Hah!  No, no, no.............  I imagine that I will be planning on living abroad for awhile.  My family and I love to do home exchanges --- we had a lovely experience exchanging with a family in Paris.  So, I think we will be making plans to do a long term exchange with a family somewhere in Europe.  Perhaps the Tuscan region of Italy?  Provence?  A beach in Spain?   It's so hard to decide!  That's why I refer to myself as  A Nomad In Paris......  We love to travel and discover new places and cultures.

Era come magico!

Hah! No, no, no...Immagino che starò progettando di vivere all'estero per un po'. E' difficile scegliere!
