Intervista del Mercoledì-Wednesday interview,Bagatelle.

This week Interview with Sophie and her shop Bagatelle Design,
from Colorado, USA.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

My name is Sophie and I was born in Belgium (Europe). I moved to Colorado in 2000 with my husband and our 3 daughters. I love the outdoors and all kinds of sports.

I started making jewelry for myself many years ago and quickly discovered that I have a passion for colors - textures - shapes. I particularly love Swarovski crystals. Swarovski crystals have a magical and sparkly quality to them that reflects the beauty of the natural world surrounding us. They can be found in many of my designs.
I handcraft each piece of jewelry right here in my Colorado studio. I take pride in my designs. There is a story around every piece and the colors I choose.
I believe that the things you wear can be an expression of who you are; they can make you feel good and brighten your day.

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

I discovered etsy as a buyer many years ago and was instantly hooked by the abundance of marvelous goods.  I loved discovering unique handmade items from all over the world, knowing that someone, somewhere put time and dedication into making the perfect piece.  It was only normal from there to choose etsy as a platform to sell my line of handcrafted jewelry.

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

My favorite material must be Swarovski crystal, because of their inner beauty.  I love the fact that sunlight will reveal their true colors and shine back into the world.  A little bit like shining from the inside out J
Then after the crystals I love vintage repurposed elements because of the story they have to tell us.  How much love, how many tears have they been witnessed to?

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

It all starts with the hunt for the perfect beads and magnificent new colors.  I gather and collect beads from all over the world thanks to the internet.  I spread everything out around me in my studio and let the inspiration come.  My creations are guided by my moods and my feelings.  The designs form in my head and I try to translate them into reality.  I put the beads together and let myself “feel” the piece.  Does it feel right, harmonious?  Is it beautiful and pleasing to the eye?

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

Absolutely!  I believe there is a common misconception out there that cheaper, easier and disposable are virtues worth paying for.  The jewelry industry is afflicted by current marketplace trends. If it gets attention and it’s sparkly and cheap, it’ll sell. I think that it is an unfortunate trend.  Buying handmade quality items made by artisans is the best chance to get a unique piece that you will love and want to wear again and again..

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Hopefully, my kids will be out of school and I’ll be traveling across United-States with my husband in a huge trailer, making jewelry along the way!

Amo stare all'aria aperta e tutti i tipi di sport. Amo particolarmente i cristalli Swarovski.

Assolutamente!
