Intervista del mercoledì-Wednesday interview, Acire

This week interview with Acire and her beautiful paintings,
from USA

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

I am a wife and a mother of three children. I have dabbled in painting my whole life. I recently have the opportunity to live in Australia which is one of the most wonderful countries in the world. Before leaving my husband and I took a day to try to pick out a large piece of Aboriginal art to purchase. We had some small items but I wanted something significant. I fell in love with one painting and asked my husband what he thought about buying it. He said he would love to buy it for me but I wouldn’t have a car when we moved back to the United States as it was almost $20,000! We had a good laugh and I started thinking, I could paint that and while it wouldn’t be an original from Australia it would be free.
On New Year’s Eve I had no plans (how exciting am I?) so I thought I would paint a little bit. I hadn’t painted in some time and it was so much fun and relaxing. I just kept painting after that and listed a couple of items. I was very fortunate to have some nice people give me good feedback on my first few items and that kept me going.

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

I don’t think I would sell anywhere but Etsy. I just love Etsy, I find it to be so comfortable, very different then selling say on Ebay.

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

So far I have mainly been using Aboriginal type of techniques, dot paintings and the like. I am trying out some new things and we will see where that goes. I really want to be original and branch out from what I am just comfortable with. I like painting on canvas the most. I use acrylics and mix a lot of my own colors which is so much fun to do.

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

I guess I start out with an idea in my head of what I want the painting to be and then I move on to what colors would be right. I mix my colors and then get started. I like to try to carve out enough time to finish a painting in one sitting. I am sure that will change as I paint some larger pieces.
Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

I think people should buy homemade as much as possible. For me, I love owning original items. When we travel instead of buying magnets or t-shirts or whatever other touristy item I buy original art. I love going to local farmers markets or craft shows and buying original pieces from the artists. I love looking around my house and being reminded of the place we were when I bought an item or who the artist was who created it. And buying original art doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot either, you can just get a small vase or plate or painting.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Where do I see myself 5 years from now? That is a very difficult question to answer. What I would love to be doing is living near a beach somewhere and be creating every day. I would love to be able to make enough off my art that it would be my “day job”.

Sto cercando nuove cose e vedremo come andrà!
