This week interview with Ta-Da! beautful handpainted jewelry by Višnja from Croatia.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.

 My name is Višnja Mihatov Barić, I'm 28 year old artist living in Zagreb, Croatia, but I was born in the most beautiful city in the Adriatic coast Zadar. I work as a graphic designer and illustrator and three months ago I started making illustrated jewelry. I've graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts because I always wanted to become an artist, it was my dream come true. I was fortunate to be surrounded by my creative family, my dad a pupeeter and a caricaturist, my brother who is a theater player, my mother who was always into art and my twin sister, also a great painter! My husband is my biggest and most important support in my life. I spend a lot of time on sketching, drawing, making things, and Etsy is a great place where I can show my art!

Why did you choose Etsy to sell your items?

I became familiar with Etsy a couple a years ago, and I was just waiting the perfect time to start selling. Etsy is a very inspirative place where you can see so many creative unique people and their work sometimes just amaze me! I'm so glad that I can be a part of that creative community.

What are your favorite materials/techniques and why?

 I started making jewelry with paper clay, I just love it and it's so easy to work with, it's the perfect surface for making my illustrations and I love the fact that people can wear my art.

Tell us briefly the stages of processing of your products.

My process begins with sketching. It' s the best part of creating and I could just spend the whole day making little illustrations! After I finish modeling with paper clay, I let it dry for one day so I can start with drawing. Every piece takes time so I often draw a couple of hours before I'm done. I protect them with three layers of high gloss varnish and it gives that special glow to the illustration, they are attached to adjustable rings and brooches. Now I'm working with pendants and bracelets, they'll be soon in my TA-DA! shop.

Do you think people should buy handmade? Why?

People should buy handmade, of course. From my point of view, before I even started thinking of creating my own jewelry, I always loved handmade items and the people who put a lot of effort and time to make them, and the story that lies behind each one of them is sometimes really inspiring.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Hmm..that's a question that always spins in my mind..I would love to have my own studio, and doing what I love, creating and drawing every day! I would love my twin sister to join me although we are planning to make something of our own, soon! That's another dream I would love to come true.

Raccontaci qualcosa su di te e il tuo negozio.


Mi chiamo Višnja Mihatov Barić, ho 28 anni, sono un'artista che vive a Zagreb, in Croazia, ma sono nata nella più bella città della costa Adriatica, Zadar. Lavoro come illustratrice e graphic designer e tre mesi fa ho inizato a lavorare alle illustrazioni per i miei gioielli. Mi sono diplomata all'accademia di Belle Arti perchè desideravo diventare un'artista e il mio sogno si è avverato. Sono fortunata ad essere circondata da una famiglia di artisti. Mio padre è un burattinaio e caricaturista, mio fratello è un attore di teatro, mia madre è sempre stata  nell'arte e anche mia sorella è una grande pittrice! Mio marito è il più grande e importante supporto nella mia vita! Passo un sacco di tempo facendo schizzi, disegnando, realizzando cose e Etsy è un grande posto dove mostrare la mia arte!




Perché hai scelto Etsy per vendere i tuoi lavori? 


Ho preso familiarità con Etsy un paio di anni fa, stavo solo aspettando il momento giusto per iniziare a vendere! Etsy è un posto molto ispirativo dove puoi vedere molti artisti e i loro lavori sono semplicemente stupefacenti! Sono lieta di far parte di una comunità così ingegnosa!




Quali sono i tuoi materiali/tecniche preferiti? Perchè?
Ho iniziato a lavorare con la paper clay (una pasta modellabile a base di cellulosa), mi piace molto ed è semplice da lavorare, è la superficie perfetta per disegnare le mie illustrazioni e amo il fatto che le persone possano indossare la mia arte.

Raccontaci brevemente gli steps del tuo processo lavorativo. 
Il mio processo lavorativo inizia con una bozza. E' la parte più bella del lavoro e potrei spendere un'intero giorno per fare una piccola illustrazione. Dopo finisco di modellare con la paper clay. Dopo un giorno si asciuga e io posso iniziare con il disegno. Ogni pezzo richiede tempo così passano un paio di ore prima che finisca. Proteggo il lavoro con tre passate di vernice protettiva lucidante che da una brillantezza speciale alle illustrazioni le quali poi vengono attaccate ad anelli regolabili o spille. Ora sto lavorando su pendenti e bracciali, saranno presto nel TA-DA shop!




Secondo te le persone dovrebbero acquistare hand-made? Perchè?
Le persone dovrebbero acquistare hand-made, sicuramente! Dal mio punto di vista, da prima che iniziassi a pensare di  fare gioielli tutti miei, ho sempre amato oggetti fatti a mano, le persone che hanno messo un sacco di tempo e fatica per farli, la storia che si nasconde dietro ogni pezzo è qualcosa di veramente ispirativo!




Dove ti vedi a da qui a 5 anni?
Mmh...E' una domanda che gira sempre nella mia testa, mi piacerebbe avere un mio studio, facendo ciò che mi piace, realizzando un disegno ogni giorno! Mi piacerebbe che la mia sorella gemella si unisca a me e di progettare qualcosa di nostro! E' un altro sogno che mi piacerebbe si realizzasse!
